Frequently asked questions

Straight answers on fees, plans, your accountant, meetings and how we use AI.

Do I have to change accountants?

No. You can keep your accountant for tax returns, BAS, and year-end accounts. We focus on advisory work and won't take your compliance work unless you ask us to quote on it.

What size business do you work with?

Businesses turning over $200,000 or more, with no upper limit. Most don't have a CFO of their own.

Do you only work with country businesses?

No. We work with businesses in capital cities and country towns. Clients outside the areas we visit meet with us online.

How much does a virtual CFO cost?

Our Virtual CFO plan is a fixed monthly fee, based on the size and complexity of your business. We'll tell you the exact fee on a free 30-minute call. For comparison, a full-time CFO typically costs $180,000 to $300,000 a year in salary.

What's the difference between the plans?

Each plan adds more forecasting, meeting time, and support. Essentials gives you monthly reporting and a quarterly review. Control adds cash forecasting and debtor management. Growth adds a rolling 12-month forecast and margin analysis, and Virtual CFO adds board-level reporting and strategy.

Do I have to sign up for 12 months?

No. After a one-off onboarding fee, your plan runs month to month (or quarter to quarter). For a limited time, you can take 10% off your plan fee if you commit to 12 months and pay the full year in advance. Conditions apply if you end the plan early, and our Terms of Business set out the details.

Can I switch plans or cancel?

Yes. You can move up or down a plan with 30 days' notice and no fee. You can end your plan with 14 days' written notice, as set out in our Terms of Business.

What does the onboarding fee cover?

Your dashboard set-up, a tidy-up of your chart of accounts and your first budget or forecast. We tell you the amount in your proposal. If you've had a Financial Health Check in the last 30 days, the $750 comes off it.

Do your prices change?

Our prices increase on 1 July each year. The increase reflects the rise in our costs of staff, technology and general overheads. We give you at least 30 days' written notice.

Can we meet in person?

Yes, in Bathurst and the Central West, West Wyalong and the Mid North Coast. We can travel further within reason, and additional fees may apply depending on the location. Everywhere else, we meet online.

What software do you use?

We work with your existing accounting software, such as Xero or MYOB. AI-assisted tools help us prepare your dashboards, forecasts, and reports. That's how we deliver monthly numbers at regional rates.

Is my data secure, and do you use AI?

For advisory plans, we use read-only access to your accounting file, so we can't change your records. Our AI providers are bound by contract to keep your information confidential and secure. Our Privacy policy lists the tools we use. Ian reviews every AI-assisted report before you see it. You can ask us in writing, before we start, not to use AI on your work.

Who will I work with?

You work directly with Ian Morgan, CPA, who brings more than 20 years of public practice experience, including as a partner in a large mid-tier firm.

What qualifications do you hold?

Ian is a CPA, a member of CPA Australia and holds a CPA Australia Public Practice Certificate. FirmGround Advisory Pty Ltd is a registered tax agent with the Tax Practitioners Board (registration number 26 386 711). Ian is also a registered tax agent in his own right and supervises the firm's tax work.
