What to include and what to leave out

Include, as owed today

  • Unpaid supplier bills
  • GST, PAYG withholding and super owing
  • Wages owing and staff leave balances
  • Income tax owing and any ATO payment plan balance
  • Credit card balances
  • Loan principal due in the next 12 months
  • An overdraft, unless you entered it as negative cash above

Leave out

  • Costs you haven't incurred yet, such as next year's rent, wages or BAS
  • Loan principal due after 12 months
  • Interest on future loan repayments

Example: your March BAS of $18,000 is still unpaid. Include it. Next quarter's BAS isn't owed yet, so leave it out. Your balance sheet's "current liabilities" total is the figure you want.
